What is Drum and Bass?

Drum and Bass music is a type of electronic dance music that began in the eighties. The UK made it popular after it gained in popularity among the dance scene. It led to some other forms of electronic and dance music that are still widely popular today. It is sometimes referred to as DnB or D&B.

The earliest record of this type of music was in 1989 with “Radio Babylon.” Meat Beat Manifesto led to other popular bands of this type. They are: Concord Dawn and Spor and Nosia.

This electronic dance music spread from the UK to Germany and the Netherlands as well. The popularity of it is due to the sound that is very conducive to dance. Techno-dance is the best way to describe EDM.

The beats are comprised of break beats of 160 to 190 beats per minute. This is generally done through a sequencer. The combination of bass and fast beats is what made this form of electronic dance music so popular for raves. They make the rave a blast for the guests. It matches the style of dance that is enjoyed at such events and it gets the blood pumping. All of that is what makes drum and bass music work so well for EDM.

To make some drum and bass music the person would set a tempo of the drum sequencer to 16. Wait for the fourth neat. Then begin the beats. It should be something that is fun and creative. Anyone that has to work at creating drum and bass music should ask himself or herself if they really get it. When people do get EDM, it is a passion.

Once the patterns are set, you simply add a snare beat every forth beat or so. The high hat can be used as an accent every four bars. The bass is the core of this type of DnB. Remember to keep it fresh.

As the sequence of the pattern progresses, the beats have to show closure in order to feel right for D&B. This is done by ending on the fourth beat. It can be done at any time. All that is requires is a set of four beats to close the sequence.

D&B, or DnB music is fun and the perfect addition to an event. Creativity is definitely needed, as in any form of creative expression. Experience with the mixes and mixing takes time. Once it is mastered though, anyone can appreciate the great sound of the drum and bass music make EDM a hypnotic and addictive form of expression.
