Heartbreak is back stronger than ever releasing The Foundation EP on OWSLA.  The EP is definitely a unique release for OWSLA with each of the seven tracks pulling from different genres.  You’ll hear elements of Dub, Acid, Hip-Hop, Hardstyle, Electro and more fused in a manner that raises the bar for today’s producers.  We really appreciated the forward thinking on this EP and big ups to OWSLA for allowing Heartbreak to do him without constraints. Adding to their powerhouse line-up of artists, OWSLA’s newest addition is Brooklyn-born, David Heartbreak, who I took the opportunity to chat with this past weekend.  Heartbreak is no new name to the EDM community, having early support from artists like Diplo & Bassnectar and being featured multiple times on the prestigious BBC Radio 1.  With previous releases on Atlantic, Sony, Ultra, Smog, and Mad Decent amongst others, I asked Heartbreak about why exactly OWSLA:

“OWSLA was the best place for me because they’re the most positive and best energy I’ve experienced in the music business. It’s a family; OWSLA is all about making what you love and being yourself, and thats important. I’m not expected to sound like Sonny, Alvin or Zedd… I can just be David Heartbreak and thats the most important thing…”

With an official remix for Skrillex of “Make it Bun Dem” just last year, Heartbreak touched on his relationship with Sonny:

“I’ve known Sonny for a minute. When I met him a few years ago I was nice, but I didn’t really know what I was doing; I was just making tracks, touring and having fun. A few years later, I found my sound & my lane, and it just worked out.”

Heartbreak’s influences include a wide range of artists including Goldie, The Prodigy, King Tubby, Flying Lotus, Skrillex, and Timbaland with Dub and Reggae being in his blood. His upcoming EP on OWSLA titled ‘The Foundation’ features seven tracks and seven genres:

“The EP is Reggae, Hip-Hop, Electro, and heavily Dub-influenced, but each song is a different genre.  I’m all about making good music and not being constricted.  This EP, like my past work, is based off my emotions.  Honestly, it’s my best work to date and I can’t wait for the world to hear it.”

The Foundation EP will be released mid-May on OWSLA and you’ll want to keep your eye on David Heartbreak these coming months. He’s one of the more forward-thinking and limitless producers in the game right now. With genre walls rapidly being torn down, multi-genre producers like Heartbreak are the future of electronic music.

Magnetic Music Festival 2013

Magnetic Music Festival is a unique and brand new EDM festival due to hit Atlanta on Saturday April 20, 2013.  Produced by Liquified and Disco Donnie Presents, MMF will take place at the beautiful Kennesaw State Sports and Recreation Park.

The one-day festival features a fairly stacked lineup, touching on a variety of styles all over the EDM spectrum. These acts will take place over three stages, including a 3D-stage, equipped with video-mapped visuals and laser shows.

Kennesaw State Sports & Recreation Park

Atlanta’s new 88-acre sports and entertainment park features state-of-the-art fields and concert venue; a 9 acre lake and a 16,000 person main stage in the stadium all set to the backdrop of pristine Kennesaw Mountain. Less than 20 minutes from downtown Atlanta, the 88-acre park provides a perfect escape.

Map & Special Features

As shown above, MMF will feature three areas over the park.  The Forcefield Main Stage will include a unique 3D design, incorporating video mapped visuals. This audiovisual sensory experience features state-of-the-art production, sound, stage designs, and lighting, created specifically for Magnetic Music Festival.

The festival will also include a wide array of vendors, art installations, roving performers and more, as well as convenient ATM’s & concessions.

If you follow us on Twitter, you already know of our appreciation for the boundless David Heartbreak. As an artist and a producer, he’s always been one to push out whatever he’s feeling at the time, never sticking to any certain genre or style. This time around he’s flipped “Go With It” by Tokimonsta & MNDR into a smooth chill-vibe’d tune, perfect to get lost in.

Labeling it as “Future Soul“, Heartbreak replaces the tribal feel of the original with minimal percussion and nice emphasis on vocals by MNDR‘s Amanda Warner. With most producers right now centered around creating the next Festival banger, Heartbreak‘s refreshing feel on this remix brought us great relief.
