Electric Zoo 2012: The EDM Festival of New York City
Earlier this year, Electric Daisy Carnival debuted its first event in the Northeast. EDCNY was one of the first top-tier EDM festivals to hit Northeast, but the pioneer of the EDM festival in NYC is undoubtedly Electric Zoo.
History of Electric Zoo
Electric Zoo Festival, an EDM event run by Made Event, debuted in 2009 at Randall‘s Island and is the only large scale outdoor EDM festival that’s hosted in NYC (EDC New York was actually in New Jersey).
In 2009 EZoo was a two day event and consisted of 55 acts with headliners such as Armin van Buuren, ATB, Axwell, deadmau5, David Guetta, Ferry Corsten, Kaskade, Markus Schulz, Richie Hawtin, Roger Sanchez, Steve Angello, Steve Aoki, and Victor Calderone. EZoo 2009 was a huge success and Made Event decided to host EZoo 2010 at Randall’s Island again. Made Event experienced great success in 2010 again and pioneered the EDM festival scene in New York City with Electric Zoo.
Last year, Electric Zoo 2011 spanned over three days and hosted over 100 performances. Made Event hosted the biggest and most well-run EDM festival New York City had ever seen. The event attracted over 85,000 attendees and featured headliners such as Above and Beyond, Afrojack, Armin van Buuren, Arty, ATB, Big Gigantic, Calvin Harris, Carl Cox, David Guetta, Danny Tenaglia, Dirty South, Diplo, Datsik, Ferry Corsten, Gareth Emery, Hardwell, John Dahlback, Markus Schulz, Michael Woods, Porter Robinson, Richie Hawtin, Sander van Doorn, Sidney Samson, Skrillex, Sunnery James and Ryan Marciano, Tiesto, and many more.
Made Event’s Societal Responsibility
Also, in the past, Made Event has taken various initiatives to help society. In 2010 Made Event donated $42,000 to FLOW (outdoor art exhibition project in coordination with The Randall’s Island Park Alliance), The Bronx Museum of Arts, and The Rockefeller NYC Cultural Innovation Fund. In 2011, Made Event again donated $2 from every ticket sale towards the outdoor art exhibition project.
Not only has Made Event given back to the community, but Made Event also took initiatives to help preserve the environment. In 2011 they introduced an on-site recycling program, served water in cardboard containers, utilized compost able plates and utensils, used 100% biodiesel alternative fuel from NYC fryer grease, and required all food vendors to only use organic, hormone-free, humanely raised meats.
Electric Zoo 2012
The manner in which Made Event has scaled Electric Zoo in the past years is very impressive. The festival transitioned into a three-day event in just two years, expanded its festival parameters, and now hosts performances by the majority of all the top EDM artists.
This year, Electric Zoo will begin on August 31, 2012 and end on September 2, 2012. There will be four different stages every day and the line-up is absolutely incredible. Three day passes are still available for $300 and individual day passes range from $115-155. There are six official after parties which will be held at the Best Buy Theater and Roseland Ballroom each night.
Looking at how Electric Zoo has improved over the past several years, our expectations for EZoo 2012 are very high. With a jaw dropping lineup(picture slider at the top) and extremely complex production elements, Electric Zoo 2012 is will be NYC’s EDM event of the year.
It has been a monumental year for the EDM movment globally, and more so in New York City.
Electric Zoo 2012 will be the perfect way to celebrate the end of another amazing Summer in New York.
